Fiifi Tackie, spokesperson for the Ayew family, has hinted on social media that former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah may be gearing up to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) seat as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.
“Stephen Appiah to contest Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency as an independent Parliamentary candidate,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, April 26, 2024.
If confirmed, Appiah would be joining Frederick Acheampong, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association, in the political arena.
Acheampong recently secured the New Patriotic Party’s nomination for the Ahafo Ano South East constituency, polling 164 votes.
Appiah’s potential candidacy would set up a three-way battle for the AWW seat, as he would face off against Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP and John Dumelo of the NDC.
