Everton have officially appealed against their second points deduction for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, according to BBC Radio Merseyside.
Initially, the Toffees were hit with a 10-point deduction, which was reduced to six on appeal in February, covering the three-year period up to 2021-22.
The deadline for the current appeal process is 24th May, just five days after the final Premier League game of the season.
Currently, Sean Dyche’s side sits 16th in the table, with a narrow two-point margin above the relegation zone.
In their upcoming match, Everton will face Chelsea on Monday, with kick-off at 20:00 BST, looking to secure a safer position in the league standings.
The Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) allow clubs to incur a maximum loss of £105 million over three years. An independent commission found that Everton had exceeded this limit by £16.6 million for the three-year period ending in 2022-23.
Furthermore, Everton could potentially face an additional points deduction related to interest costs associated with the construction of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. However, this matter is unlikely to be resolved before the end of the current season.
