Liverpool suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals, raising questions about Jurgen Klopp’s future at Anfield.
The loss, which could potentially be Klopp’s last European night at Anfield, saw Liverpool deliver a lacklustre performance, lacking creativity and coherence throughout the match.
Gianluca Scamacca scored twice for Atalanta, while Mario Pasalic added a late goal, putting the Italian side in control of the tie heading into the second leg.
Despite a bright start from Liverpool, including a shot from Harvey Elliott that hit the woodwork, Atalanta took the lead through Scamacca’s first-half goal. The Reds struggled to respond, with Atalanta dominating the game and adding two more goals in the second half.

Klopp tried to rally his team and the fans, but Atalanta held on for a memorable victory. The defeat marks Liverpool’s first loss at Anfield since February 2023 and comes after a disappointing draw against Manchester United.
The result leaves Liverpool’s hopes of reaching the Europa League final in jeopardy, as they now face an uphill battle in the second leg in Bergamo.
