In their first friendly game of the March international break, Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria on Friday afternoon in Marrakesh.
Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring for Nigeria with a penalty in the 38th minute. Nigeria maintained their one-goal lead going into halftime, dominating the first 45 minutes.
After halftime, Ghana’s coach Otto Addo made changes, bringing on Tariq Lamptey and Ebenezer Annan. However, Ghana suffered a setback when Jerome Opoku was shown a straight red card just 11 minutes into the second half.
Although Ghana created chances to equalize, they were unable to convert. In the 84th minute, Nigeria extended their lead with Ademola Lookman scoring from close range after a pass from Alex Iwobi.
Jordan Ayew scored a late penalty for Ghana, but it was not enough as Nigeria emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. This result marks a defeat for Otto Addo in his first game since returning as head coach.
Ghana will now focus on their upcoming game against Uganda on March 26.
