A Spanish prosecutor has requested a prison sentence of four years and nine months for soccer coach Carlo Ancelotti.
He is accused of evading 1 million euros ($1.1 million) in taxes on image rights revenues during his time at Real Madrid in 2014 and 2015.
According to the prosecutor’s statement on Wednesday, Ancelotti, although a resident in Spain for tax purposes at the time, allegedly failed to declare income earned through his image rights, totaling 4.2 million euros.
The prosecutor has charged Ancelotti with two counts of tax fraud, alleging that he transferred his image rights to entities with little activity outside Spain to avoid paying taxes.
Ancelotti, who returned as Real Madrid coach in 2021, has not yet responded to the accusations. His lawyer declined to comment.
Spanish authorities have previously pursued other celebrities, including players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Diego Costa, over suspected tax evasion. All settled and paid significant fines.
Besides Real Madrid and Everton, Ancelotti has enjoyed successful spells at clubs like AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris St Germain, and Bayern Munich. As a coach, he has won the Champions League four times, twice with AC Milan and twice with Real Madrid.
