Meta has announced that it has resolved a “technical issue” that led to the widespread outage of Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram.
For approximately two hours on Tuesday, hundreds of thousands of users worldwide were unable to access these platforms. Attempts to log in resulted in error messages, and users were unable to refresh their feeds.
Meta issued an apology to those affected and stated that it resolved the issue as quickly as possible. The outages were reported in multiple countries, according to tracking website Downdetector.
Facebook boasts three billion active monthly users, while Instagram is expected to reach 1.4 billion worldwide later this year, making Meta’s platforms among the most popular globally. Additionally, Threads, Meta’s competitor to Twitter, experienced similar outages.
However, WhatsApp, another platform owned by Meta, remained unaffected.
This incident marks one of several major outages experienced by Meta’s platforms. In 2021, founder Mark Zuckerberg issued an apology for disruptions that lasted almost six hours, affecting Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram.
