Everton Football Club has announced that an Appeal Board has decided to reduce the points deduction imposed by an independent Premier League Commission in November.
The deduction, initially set at 10 points, has been reduced to six points with immediate effect.
The club has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the appeal, noting that it believes the reduction in points is a positive result.
The Appeal Board reportedly deemed the original 10-point deduction to be inappropriate when considering various benchmarks, including the position under relevant EFL regulations and the 9-point deduction imposed under the Premier League’s rules in cases of insolvency.
Additionally, Everton has highlighted the Appeal Board’s decision to overturn the original Commission’s finding that the club failed to act in utmost good faith. This reversal, along with the reduction in points, was deemed a significant point of principle for the club during the appeal process.
Despite the positive outcome, Everton remains committed to cooperating with the Premier League in ongoing proceedings related to the accounting period ending in June 2023.
The club is still assessing the wider implications of the decision and will not make further comments at this time.
Everton expressed gratitude to their Fan Advisory Board, other fan groups, and all Evertonians for their support and patience throughout this process.
