Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has signed a contract extension until 2026, ensuring that he will lead the team into the next World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The Spanish football federation announced this decision on Thursday, citing the need for stability as the team prepares for the upcoming European Championships in June.
Fuente’s contract was originally set to expire on June 30, which would have coincided with the middle of the Euros. However, with the extension, he will continue to guide Spain’s national team through the tournament and beyond.
The decision to extend Fuente’s contract comes after he took over as coach in 2022 following Spain’s disappointing round-of-16 exit from the World Cup in Qatar.
The federation believes that Fuente’s leadership will provide the team with the stability and direction needed to achieve success in future competitions.
