Former Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan has been appointed to the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Gyan, known as Ghana’s highest goal scorer, has accepted the role of leading the “Youth and Sports” sub-committee within the manifesto team.
He will work with twenty-three other members to review the NPP’s manifestos from 2016 and 2020, aiming to craft a practical manifesto for the upcoming 2024 election.
The committee plans to engage with stakeholders and seek input from sector ministers, acting as advisors, to develop a forward-thinking and practical manifesto addressing the needs of Ghanaians.
Gyan’s recent message on his X (formerly Twitter) page, shared on Wednesday, February 21, gains significance with his appointment to the committee.
He is expected to play an active role in communicating the sports-related aspects of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto once finalized.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, has appointed outgoing Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, as the Chairman of the Committee. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has been named vice chairman, and Evron Hughes will serve as the secretary. Prof. Kwaku Appiah Adu and Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah will act as the manifesto committee coordinators.
The committee is tasked with a thorough review of the party’s previous manifestos from the 2016 and 2020 elections.
