Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido announced on Tuesday his intention to donate 300 million Naira (approximately $197,000 or £156,000) to orphanages in Nigeria.
“I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria…as my yearly contribution to the nation..details of disbursement tomorrow,” Davido shared on a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.
Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, has become known for his philanthropic efforts in recent years, endearing himself to fans.
In 2021, he demonstrated this generosity by raising 200 million Naira from his friends and fans.
He appealed to them through social media, asking for contributions to clear his Rolls Royce from the port. Adding 50 million Naira of his own, Davido donated the total sum of 250 million Naira to various orphanages in Nigeria.
Following this act of kindness, Davido established the David Adeleke Foundation the following year. Since its inception, the foundation has continued to donate money to orphanages in Nigeria annually.
Nigerians online have praised Davido’s latest pledge, noting its timeliness and potential to help orphanages cope with the increasing cost of living.
